Prime Video's Off Campus season 2 will not feature Justin Kohl, but showrunner Louisa Levy hints at a possible return. Expect a new couple and plot shifts from the books.
Showrunner Louisa Levy has confirmed that Josh Heuston's Justin Kohl will not return for the second season of Prime Video's hockey romance series Off Campus. The decision stems from Heuston's scheduling conflict, but also from the narrative resolution of Season 1, where Hannah Wells chose Garrett Graham over Justin.
Levy told TV Guide, "Not next season, but I love Josh and I would not write him off if I can find a way to bring Justin back at some point."
Each season of Off Campus adapts a different romance from Elle Kennedy's book series. While the second novel, The Mistake, centers on Grace Ivers and John Logan, Levy has decided to adapt the third book, The Score, instead. This means Season 2 will follow Allie Hayes and Dean Di Laurentis, two characters already introduced in Season 1.
The show's willingness to rearrange the source material—much like how digital comic platforms reimagine storylines—allows it to maintain narrative momentum while keeping fans guessing.
"It was always in an effort to keep the momentum going," Levy explained, referencing the decision to skip ahead in the book order.
Despite Justin's absence in Season 2, Levy has not closed the door on his character. In the books, Justin eventually finds love with Stella, a character yet to appear in the series. Levy hinted that she would welcome Heuston back if the story permits.
"We never got a chance to meet Stella, who is the person he ends up with in the book. So maybe we'll find a way to fold him into a future season."
This kind of long-term planning—similar to how technology transforms athletic training—requires careful coordination of cast schedules and story arcs. But for now, fans must wait for confirmation of any return.
